Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can everyone be hypnotized?
Most everyone can be hypnotized given the right approach for induction. Exceptions may be in the hard of hearing or mentally disabled or those who are determined not to be hypnotized but overall I would estimate that 90%+ of people can be taken into the hypnotic state for sessions. In reality we all go in and out of hypnotic states throughout our day and all hypnosis is in fact self-hypnosis.
Q: How many sessions do I need?
This depends on your goal for yourself. Hypnotherapy offers an opportunity to get to the true root cause of physical, emotional and behavioral challenges by addressing the deep inner mind. This means it allows us to resolve or attenuate a wide range of issues. A single issue such as sleep or anxious feelings can typically be resolved in about 3-5 sessions. Deeper issues such as weight loss may require 10 or more sessions to address all of the dimensions of weight gain. If you were to choose to continue after addressing a single issue then that option is available to you to work on another issue.
Q: How long is a session?
Sessions last about 1.5 - 2hrs to provide adequate time for an intake for each session so that when you do go into hypnosis we can go directly to what needs to be addressed. It's best to plan for at least 2hrs of time on your calendar so you won't feel rushed or distracted.
Q: Will I need to come back for the issue in the future?
Hypnotic programming is an aspect of the work that I do and with traditional hypnotic programming it is sometimes necessary to update the program so to speak with an additional session or two. However, with hypnotherapy we are working on a much deeper level to address the underlying cause rather than simply suggesting something new or different to the subconscious mind. This means we are rewriting the original program from your earliest years. This approach greatly reduces the need for a "booster" to your programming, however if something arises in the future we can certainly address it.
Q: Will I remember after the session?
Absolutely. In fact I'll make a suggestion at the end of your session just to make sure you do remember. In hypnosis you are fully conscious, fully aware and you'll remember the entire session.
Q: Am I conscious during hypnotherapy?
Yes, your conscious mind is present during the process such that if you chose to you could stop at any point. Your conscious mind is simply moved to the side so we can access the subconscious mind.
Q: Do I need a referral from a doctor?
Using hypnotherapy for diagnosed conditions requires a referral from the appropriate allied health professional. This includes both physical and mental diagnoses. For a specific list of what requires a referral please visit this page where you'll also find the referral form that your health practitioner will need.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
I do not take insurance and I suggest you regard my services as something that you pay for personally as you would with any personal development service. Not only does that protect your privacy, but it also helps you value the work we are doing. In general, most insurance companies do not cover hypnosis, yet you could inquire to see if it is a reimbursable expense. I will happily provide a receipt for service.
Q: Do you offer in-person hypnotherapy?
Presently I only offer virtual sessions via Zoom or phone and it works quite well for all of my clients. If you need any support with setting up Zoom I am happy to provide you with resources to ensure you are prepared for your session.
Q: How much does hypnotherapy cost?
I offer sessions in packages initially of 5, 10 or 20 (for the go-getter) and then additional sessions on an a-la-carte basis once that package has been completed. Clients may also choose to purchase a second package to take advantage of the savings. Sessions last 2 hrs and my hourly rate is $100/hr, but it is discounted for the packages.
