False, Evidence, Appearing Real. (F.E.A.R.) If you are suffering from a fear then you know that while the above statement may be true, your body has very real physiological responses to whatever it is that creates a fear for you. This is because your body doesn't actually recognize the difference between something that is real or imagined. This is a blessing and a curse because while it means that your fear may feel as real as the ground beneath your feet, it also means that if you create something different in your mind, you can overcome that fear. This capacity of the mind is where hypnosis and hypnotherapy can help eliminate fears completely. For some overcoming a fear can be as simple as using an NLP technique. Below are 2 parts of a tried and true NLP technique and 1 technique that I created which can be a great addition after completing the other two techniques: On The SilverscreenRecognize the thought that activates the negative emotions inside of you, or the idea that pushes your buttons and you go into a fight-flight-freeze response by thinking about it or considering it. Identify what you see, hear, smell, sense, and feel as you play that thought in your mind. Notice how it's like a movie that is playing and your body-mind has stored it activating all of these senses. Now imagine that you are in a movie theater and notice all of the detail of the theater. See up on that screen a black and white version of your movie, taking place about 15 minutes before the unpleasant thing that created the fear occurred. Freeze-frame this image before anything happened. Notice that you are looking at the scene from outside of it. Now sit back and watch this black and white movie, soon this will be the last time you watch this movie. Begin to edit this movie by hitting pause and making changes to it. Try dimming the picture, zoom out from the movie scene, adjust the volume down to reduce the intensity of the movie. Notice the feelings and sensations of that person experiencing that thing. Put It In ReverseNext float yourself from the seats of the movie theater up to the projectors booth way back behind you. You are now behind that plexiglass and at a distance and you have complete control over this movie. Now play that movie in fast forward for the last time as a black and white film and watch it from 2 perspectives at once. Watch from the theater seats and from the control booth at the same time. You can switch back and forth to get used to the feeling. Watching as both that younger version of you and your current self simultaneously. End the movie in a scene of comfort where you were safe and doing something enjoyable or fun. Finally, float inside that scene of comfort and just enjoy it. See what you see, hear what you hear and just feel the comfort and safety of that scene. Stay there until you feel that your comfort level is a 7 or 8 out of 10. Then push the rewind button and rewind the movie backwards quickly. You see the people and images moving backwards, their mouths are moving to the backwards words, you see yourself moving backwards as well. This should happen extremely fast. Repeat this process as much as is needed. Refilm and Recolor The MovieAfter having completed the above steps and ended at the beginning of the movie having watched it in rewind it is time to create a new movie or new scene. See the entire movie re-written in whatever way feels best for you at this time. Either see yourself doing something entirely different or see that event unfolding in a different way. Add in some fun or funny elements and don't worry about being too ridiculous. If you've seen the Harry Potter films then you can think of it like waving your wand and saying, "Riddikulus" and then it turns into something silly or absurd. You are the director of this new short film so create whatever you'd like. Once you have that new movie or scene just the way the you want it, put a frame around it of whatever color you would like. In fact you could even color the whole movie in a monotone color of your choosing if you'd like. Then use that same color and run it through your body wherever you had those feelings and sensations in your body with that thing you used to be afraid of. Guided SupportThese techniques above work really well, however sometimes it is helpful to have someone to guide you through the process to be sure you didn't miss anything. Also in some cases there are parts or past events that need a bit more attention and in a hypnotherapy session I can help you to do just that.
