5 Things You Can Accomplish In A Parts Work Session

What are parts?

Parts are what are termed sub-personalities but they aren't the multiple personalities that you might be thinking of. In fact, we all have inner parts that are divided or in conflict. And while we may assume that this is a bad thing, it is actually a strategy for us to be able to manage stresses, traumas, parental programming and internal conflicts.

Think about how many times you feel like you want to do something, or stop doing something but then there is a 'part' of you that is pulling you in the other direction. Both your adult self and this inner part have your best interest in  mind but they are coming from a different perspective, and in some cases have limited information and differing motivations. Importantly, no parts are bad even if you feel like a part is completely sabotaging your life. Each part has its purpose or goal and its set of strategies for achieving that goal.

What is parts work?

The goal of parts work in hypnotherapy is to resolve a client's issue by having the person's true Self or adult self dialogue with a part or parts from the subconscious. Those parts can be unknowingly creating internal conflict, unwanted behaviors or suppressing emotions that need to be expressed. Using various guided strategies within that dialogue the client is able to bring that part in alignment with the clients goal and desired outcome.

It's kind of like an internal intervention and conference meeting where all parts involved in a persons issue are brought together for the betterment of all. 

How parts work helps

Once you start to understand this natural internal dynamic that is occurring in all of us, you can begin to grow in leaps and bounds. Here are 5 things that you can accomplish from doing parts work:
  1. Improve relationships with hypnotherapy and parts work - the cornerstone of any relationship is communication as most will agree. However, the reality is that most relationships do not have clear communication because both individuals are completely unaware of the inner parts that keep popping in to have its needs met or to do its job of protecting or avoiding etc. When you start to become aware of your inner parts that are in conflict and you resole them through parts work, you will miraculously find yourself being clear, consistent and in true communication in your relationships.
  2. ​Break negative habits with hypnotherapy and parts work - negative habits always emerge out of an unmet need or as a strategy to shift one's state. Think of a wine-drinker who drinks a bit too much nightly or a nail biter who can't seem to stop. Both these and other negative habits were often created by a 'part' who is trying to shift the persons focus in order to shift their emotional state. In hypnotherapy parts work you are able to talk to the part to transform its state and get it aligned with the persons goal of stopping the negative habit. You also can go straight to the initial event from which that part emerged and resolve that. The result, no more habit because the persons state is shifted and the part is aligned.
  3. Lose weight with hypnotherapy and parts work - 80%+ Americans are overweight or obese and while certainly the processed food industry and excessively convenient food has something to do with that, the reality is that most people overeat and they do so because they are emotionally out of balance. Invariably there is a part or multiple parts within that are stepping up to the plate so to speak and being in the driver seat, walking you right over to the refrigerator or turning your car into the drive-thru. With hypnotherapy and using the tool of parts work, these parts that are compelling these behaviors can finally have their voice heard and they can learn that they are actually no longer helping.
  4. ​Improving sleep with hypnotherapy and parts work - sleep is one of the most important things for your health and well-being but so many people struggle to sleep long enough and well enough. For many this interrupted sleep goes hand in hand with an inner part that is activated and 'on duty' at night time. These parts can  be there for any variety of reasons which is really completely unique to each person. Some examples though would be, a part that keeps you awake because it's trying to 'solve a problem' with thinking or a part that is keeping you awake because it needs you to stay alert and vigilant in an 'unsafe' world. The jobs of these parts are many but the solution can be as easy as a few hypnotherapy sessions to dialogue with these parts and get on the same page.
  5. Attracting wealth and prosperity with hypnotherapy and parts work - ah, the almighty dollar. But really wealth and prosperity are so much more than that. They are a form of energy that can be exchanged to create the life that you want on all levels. So many people are trying to create something new and amazing or to have the house of their dreams but when there are parts that have been programmed since early childhood running around, it can be difficult to build up the energy and clear intention to attract and create what you desire. When these inner programmed parts are finally grown up with a different understanding from what they were originally given, you as an adult can start to really live the life that you have always wanted. 
Now that you have this new understanding of these parts that are at work within you, you can see if you notice some of your own parts. Pay attention to see if they are hijacking your thoughts, your body or emotions in different situations where you are currently struggling. If you feel emboldened you could even try to talk to a part with your own mind to ask it what its job is and how it does this job. When you better understand your parts and they better understand you, great things can start to happen!
